Who should attend this workshop?

The SAVIOR workshop is designed for MBBS graduates and postgraduate professionals who work in peripheral centers and frequently handle snakebite cases.
The SAFETi workshop is tailored for MBBS doctors with an interest in wilderness medicine and we are planning it to be open to researchers, forestry students, and other interested scholars in the future.

Who might not need to attend?

This workshop may not be essential for healthcare professionals who do not encounter snakebite cases in their practice. Additionally, if you are already well-versed in snakebite management and wilderness medicine, the foundational level of these workshops might not offer significant new insights.

What can I gain from the SAVIOR workshop?

The SAVIOR workshop addresses the critical knowledge gap in treating snake bites, especially in rural healthcare settings. Participants will:

  • Gain expertise in accurately identifying and diagnosing snakebites.

  • Learn proper techniques for bedside coagulation tests and administering antivenom.

  • Develop practical skills in initial patient management, including bedside coagulation testing and mechanical ventilation techniques.

What can I gain from doing the SAFETi workshop?

The SAFETi workshop focuses on first aid, emergency response, and managing medical and surgical emergencies in wilderness settings. Participants will:

  • Develop practical skills for assessing patients in the wilderness setting

  • Prepare individuals to assess and managing common medical emergencies encountered in wilderness environments.

  • Skills for safe transport including splinting, carries and litters

Should I attend just one of the workshops or both?

It depends on your needs and background:

  • If you treat snakebite victims and lack formal training in this area, the SAVIOR workshop is recommended.

  • If you are new to wilderness medicine or involved in providing first aid in austere environments, the SAFETi workshop would be beneficial.

  • Attending both workshops provides a comprehensive understanding of snakebite management and wilderness medicine, preparing you for a variety of challenging situations.

Does the registration fee include food and accommodation?

The registration fee for SAVIOR workshop includes

  • Breakfast and Lunch on 17th and 18th May 2024

  • No accommodation would be provided, however we can help you by giving the contact

The registration fee for SAFETi workshop includes

  • Dinner on 18th May 2024

  • Breakfast and Lunch on 19th May 2024

  • Accommodation would be provided on a twin sharing basis on 18th May 2024

Is this useful in career advancement or promotions?

We believe that attendance should not be motivated solely by the prospect of career advancement. However, we have applied for state and national credit hours that may be beneficial professionally.

Can I attend one workshop alone?

Yes, participants have the option to attend just one workshop.

Where does the money go?

While the program is a DHR ICMR funded workshop on Clinical Training, registration fees cover additional operational expenses. Proceeds are used to improve healthcare education for medical professionals, especially in underserved areas, and to fund future educational workshops and research projects related to snakebite management and wilderness medicine.

Can I conduct this course in my place?

We encourage the organization of adapted versions of this course in your region and support a cascade model for training trainers.

Can I get financial assistance or a discount to attend SBLS?

You may consider applying for the SBLS bursary. If you are found eligible, the bursary can cover your registration fee and potentially even travel expenses for selected candidates.
